Here is a quick clay render of the front of the main Absintherie building from my scene. It's turned out alot like my concept, but I'm still not convinced that it really portrays a sense of Art Nouveau era france. Hopefully once I give a few more accents (ie drainpipes and baked detail) and texture it, it'll start to look a little more authentic! The asset has been built in a number of parts which will allow me to employ a number of texture sheets and also to scale the textures down for items like the roof which will be further away from the player.
I'm quite pleased with how the staircase has turned out. I used one of the Max stair primitives as a template to build from and then I simply added the details to flesh it out. I've built the scene to scale but I'm still concerned about the overall scale when I get it into the engine and start to look around.
The general advice is to build everything 20 percent bigger than the scale suggests in order to allow the player more room to maneuver but it is easy to go overboard and then end up with an over-sized Alice in wonderland feel!
