During my lunch break today I decided to head over to the Toys R Us near my work to see if any new toys were out. I don't usually buy much from this location because the prices tend to be a good 10-20% higher than the store near my home, which is about 25 miles away. While there, I spotted the new series of DC Multiverse figures from Mattel. I've come across them before, but I had yet to see the Penguin figure from Batman Returns. I was in luck, and they still had one left.
The price on the peg seemed to be incorrect and I just assumed that it had just been mislabeled or moved, so I took it over to the Price Check. I was completely shock by what I saw. It turns out the price label was correct. This figure which was selling for around $9.99 everywhere else was being sold at this location for $16.49!
We now live in a world where a new 4" action figure with minimal accessories, sells for more than $15. That's more than 3 times higher than the a figure like this would have sold for just 7 years ago.
I'm calling in now, Toys R Us will go the way of Kay Bee Toys in the next couple of years.
And no, I didn't buy it.
And no, I didn't buy it.
