If I had a choice to pick my favorite game from the developer Capcom it will have to be Demon's Crest for the Super Nintendo.
Demon's Crest was truly a work of art; some may even considered the title a masterpiece and in a sense, it was for that time period.
The game starred Firebrand, the annoying pointy headed demon from the Ghost & Goblins series that cause many games across the world to the break their controllers on how difficult he was to defeat. I guess Capcom figured it would be a great idea to give this guy his own game, so in 1994 they did.
The game's story tells the tale on how they were two realms; the Human realm and the Demon Realm. How both realms coincided with each is beyond me, but hey who wouldn't want a two-horned monster as their neighbor? In any case, one day, six magical stones called Crests fell into the Demon realm. Each stone had an inscription on them that told of each of the crest's element powers; Fire, Earth, Water, Air, Time and Heaven.
When all the crests are combined, it is said the Crest of Infinity will appear, allowing the holder Infinite power and the ability to conquer the world. So a great war breaks out in the Demon realm, over this lust of power for the crests. Being the bad-ass that he is, Firebrand ended up with 5 of crests and in order for him to gain the last one, the Crest of Heaven, he had to face a demon dragon.
After facing the demon dragon, Firebrand ended up slaying the beast, but at a high cost of being critically wounded in the process. While trying to seek shelter from the gruesome battle, Firebrand ended up being attack by the game's main antagonist Phanlanx.
After that event occurs, Firebrand's true adventure begins on trying to retrieve all six crests (again) to face the demon Phanlanx who did some sucker shit, by attacking him when he just finished getting his ass kicked by some crazy ass demon dragon!
In any case, the game was truly a thing of a beauty from the art design, to the boss battles, to the crests on how each one dramatically changed Firebrand into a different creature. For example, the Air crest transformed him into a demon looking pterodactyl that gives him the ability to fly higher.
In closing, looking back at the 90s, gamers witness a time when Capcom was unstoppable with their creativity and this game showed it. Demon's Crest was damn near a perfect game and one can only hope that somehow or someway Capcom will bring this character back to star in his own game again.
