First Look at Playmates Toys' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie Toys

Playmates has released an image of their first line of action figures based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie coming out this year.  The line up appears to include Leonardo, Donatello, Michaelangelo, Shredder, Raphael, April O'Neil, Turtle in Disguise, Foot Soldier, and Master Splinter.
Oof…I can't say I like the design of a single one of these.  They all just look so so…crappy.  There really isn't any other way to say it.  The four Turtles look so busy and just silly.  They look look like the old 80's figures when they would just be decked out in in ridiculous outfit after another just for the sake of having a variety of toys available.  I don't like Shredder's mask or the fact that he has blades everywhere including his freakin' cape!  April just doesn't have a very interesting toy at all.  The Disguised Turtle seems like it's right out of the old cartoon, but I really don't see how it's going to work in the movie where the turtles are about 8 feet tall.  The Foot soldier is just a complete waste of a design. They're still going to be ninjas in the movie, right?  Last up is Splinter.  As far as I know, this is the first good look we've had at his design.  It does nothing for me.  I don't get the color change in his wardrobe or his ugly baboon face.  At least he has that well thought out scrotum, I mean bun, on his head.

  1. Is it me or do the turtles look like the Hunchback of Norte Dame? And poor Shredder, what is up with his head? The Foot soldiers looks like a paintball player. Splinter looks at least ok, except for the balls on his head thing.

    1. I'll admit, the Splinter has an pretty good sculpt, that I think a customizer could work with and make an awesome figure.

  2. These look really bad. I swear that was Casey Jones only to find out that it was a foot soldier.
